CONNECTED SHIP PRE-STUDY – 2

ABOUT
In the first stage of the Connected Ship project, leading Nordic clusters and business networks within shipping, cleantech and ICT will establish a partnership in order to develop a large scale Nordic Innovation project.

The focus of the project is to support new solutions that can increase energy efficiency through smart and connected technologies and thereby help the maritime industry to become more sustainable. Each of the Nordic clusters involved has leading companies in their sectors today. The clusters will act as drivers for innovation across sectors since there is a huge potential for creating innovation within digital solutions for ships.

The maritime industry is generally lagging behind other industries when it comes to digitalization, connectivity, and smart technologies. The project will, therefore, focus on creating collaboration among companies and combining existing technologies and knowledge from the IT and cleantech industries. Establishing cooperation between clusters with complementing competencies that can support the development of new innovation and business opportunities for the Nordic companies, which can be exported on a global scale and thereby give them a competitive advantage.

The project is financed by Region Skåne – “För näringslivsutvecklande och/eller tillväxtfrämjande insatser” and Nordic Innovation – “Clusters and Ecosystems as Drivers of Nordic Smart Mobility and Connectivity”.

GOAL
To establish cooperation between clusters with complementing competencies that can support the development of new innovation and business opportunities for the Nordic companies, which can be exported on a global scale and thereby give them a competitive advantage.

To increase collaboration between Nordic (Danish, Swedish and Finish) companies, to define a possible project and to file an application for a 3-year project funded by Nordic Innovation.

ACTIVITIES

  • Identify and include a Norwegian and a Finish cluster into the project consortium.
  • Identify areas for potential innovation and collaboration between Nordic companies in the maritime, IT and cleantech sectors.
  • Develop ideas for joint innovative activities through 2 workshops
  • Establish a consortium of Nordic companies, knowledge institutions, and clusters that can collaborate in an innovative project
  • Write a project proposal to a large-scale Nordic Innovation project

RESULTS
The expected result is to be granted funding from Nordic Innovation for a large-scale project involving Nordic companies from the shipping, cleantech and ICT industry.
