ABOUT
Smart public Spaces (SOM) is a project and a test arena that the City of Lund is conducting in cooperation with the City of Malmö and many companies.
Both the City of Lund and the City of Malmö are actively working to increase the transparency and participation of citizens and create better public spaces with the help of innovative solutions. The idea is that connected sensors and gadgets can play an important role in creating new types of solutions, while at the same time providing opportunities for increased entrepreneurship.
Part of the project is to find benefits with the Internet of Things (IoT) for the municipalities operations. The hope is that administrations and municipal companies can meet the future with technology solutions that are more resource-smart.
The project will initially focus on four innovation examples:
- bicycle data
- critical infrastructure monitoring
- efficient and safe urban cultivation
- user-controlled waste management.
The project will run between September 2017 – December 2020 and in the meantime, new challenges will be connected.
GOAL
To connect the industry and the public sector in activities based on real needs.
After the project time, this test arena will continue.
ACTIVITIES
At least 10 use cases to be tested. Test arena to learn and validate different technology such as data sharing, NB-IoT, BLE long-range, BLE mesh, LoRa, and different sensors.
RESULTS
Data sharing with LoRa setup has been licensed and sold to one municipality.
Our basic guidelines are used in other cities such as in the Stockholm project.
